Academic Master's

Academic Master's (until 2016)

The evolution of the pedagogical proposal of the Academic Master's course and the initial proposal of the Doctorate course of the Program (2001-2006) are presented in the paper Rocha et al. 2007 (Post-graduation in ecology at the UFBA Institute of Biology: an evolving curriculum. RBPG 4 (8): 227-244).

The Academic Master's Degree in Ecology and Biomonitoring has a single area of concentration (Ecology and biomonitoring) with six major lines of research: ecophysiology and animal behavior; Ecology of populations and communities; Ecology of interactions; Ecotoxicology and biomonitoring; Epistemology, ecological theory and teaching; And ecology applied to environmental management.

Current curricular structure:

In the admission examination, the Master candidates present their proposal of research topic to be developed. In the first semester of the course, they participate in a set of disciplines that help them to qualify their research question and to plan the methodological strategies that should be used for their development.

The compulsory subjects in the first semester are "Sample design", "Biostatistics", "Field ecology" and "Seminars". In the second semester, the compulsory subjects are "Population Ecology", "Community Ecology" and "Biomonitoring Principles".

At the end of the first year, students are required to submit a research report that includes at least the introduction sections and materials and methods of their dissertation, which is submitted to reviewers for evaluation.

Masters students should also, during the 24 months of the course, carry out the activity "Teaching training".

One of the faculties and eventually, a co-supervisor who has an academic profile complementary to the main supervisor carries out the supervision activity. The PPGEcoBio supervisors have training and academic activities associated with at least one of the research lines of the Program and contribute to the training of the student and to the qualification of his master's project.

Update of the course's pedagogical project

The pedagogical project of the Academic Master's course has undergone an update that is currently under evaluation by UFBA and CAPES. This new pedagogical project should be implemented in 2017. Access the new pedagogical projects link.
